ITINERARY

  • DAY 1: THURSDAY 17TH APRIL, 2025

    MELBOURNE TO WANGARATTA

Welcome to our Easter tour through the beautiful Victorian High Country. With chauffeured pickup from home, we are transferred to meet our O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours coach and crew. Heading off, we travel north to Euroa for our lunch stop. From here we make our way to Wangaratta, our base for the next four nights.

    OVERNIGHT:  Quality Hotel Wangaratta, WANGARATTA

  • DAY 2: FRIDAY 18TH APRIL, 2025

    SILO ART

It’s quite amazing to think that agricultural storage spurred on the idea of creating the largest outdoor art exhibition in Australia! Not far from here is our first silo, Tungamah to see brolgas and a kookaburra. In Devenish, see Cam Scale’s artwork representing the changing role of women in the military – a First World War nurse and a modern-day combat medic. A year later, he painted a tribute to the Australian Light Horse. The Australian Light Horse were mounted troops with characteristics of both cavalry and mounted infantry, who served in the Second Boer War and WW 1. We stop in Goorambat Silo featuring a Barking Owl, which is critically endangered. Each silo has a different artist and a different story! We’ll have lunch in Benalla before we are joined on the coach by a local expert for a tour of the city’s famous street art. Artists from around the world were brought together to paint murals on bare walls, some over three stories high. From here we make our way back to Wangaratta with some time to relax before dinner at the hotel.

    OVERNIGHT:  Quality Hotel Wangaratta, WANGARATTA

  • DAY 3: SATURDAY 19TH APRIL, 2025

    THE GOLDEN HORSESHOES FESTIVAL, BEECHWORTH

Today we travel to Beechworth one of Victoria’s best preserved gold towns, overflowing with history! The discovery of gold in the 1850’s brought with it a flurry of activity and growth. The magnificent buildings, 32 of which are listed by the National Trust and the beautiful gardens are a legacy of the gold rush days. We are visiting today to enjoy the town’s biggest annual celebration – the Golden Horseshoes Festival. More than 20,000 people join in the fun and watch the Grand Parade and the re-enactment of Daniel Cameron’s famous ride through Beechworth on a horse shod with golden shoes. We will be able to enjoy the Beechworth Easter Market held in Queen Victoria Park just a short walk from the centre Beechworth. The Market is an impressive selection of local produce, clothing, food, bric-a-brac and new and second hand goods - there will be something there for everyone!

Lunch at own expense and arrangement

    OVERNIGHT: Quality Hotel Wangaratta, WANGARATTA

  • DAY 4: SUNDAY 20TH APRIL, 2025

    GOURMET DELIGHTS

Following breakfast, we travel along the Great Alpine Road to Bright, stopping along the way to see the Phoenix Tree in Myrtleford – this sculpture was carved out of the trunk and roots of a huge river red gum tree by Hans Knorr. In Bright, we’ll have some free time to take in the local charm and character of the township, thanks to its old-fashioned guesthouses and historical buildings.  Meeting up again we bid farewell to Bright and head to the Red Stag Deer Farm, a stunning farm with alpine views in all directions. The unique property offers the opportunity to feed, touch and learn about deer, emus, and ostriches. We enjoy lunch here with a stunning outlook. This afternoon we discover the Milawa gourmet region, with our first stop being Milawa Mustards. Milawa Mustards offer a wide variety of mustards, herb vinegars and preserves made from locally grown ingredients. Keeping with the fabulous food theme of the region next up is Milawa Cheese Company which is located in the historic Murray Goulburn Butter Factory, for a tasting. Returning to Wangaratta, we have time to freshen up and relax before dinner at the property.

    OVERNIGHT:  Quality Hotel Wangaratta, WANGARATTA

  • DAY 5: MONDAY 21ST APRIL, 2025

    WANGARATTA TO MELBOURNE

Unfortunately, our holiday is coming to an end. We say farewell to our hosts this morning and travel via Moyhu to Whitfield, a very pretty and very small town situated in a dairying and tobacco growing district in the highly scenic King River Valley where lush river flats are surrounded by some magnificent high country. Just to the south-west of Whitfield is Powers Lookout. This vantage point on the Wabonga Plateau was used by bushranger Harry Powers in the 1860s to keep an eye out for potential prey and predators. It offers fabulous views across some truly scenic high country. From here we continue onto Mansfield which also has a colourful history of squatters, selectors, bushrangers, gold miners, packers, coachbuilders etc. It is famous for its magnificent scenery, farms, cattle, horses and hospitality. We have time to take a wander along the main street before lunch at the Hotel Delatite. Our afternoon’s journey takes us pass Bonnie Doon on the edge of Lake Eildon. We continue, travelling via Yea, to join the Melba Highway past the outskirts of Melbourne to home where our chauffeur service will drop us to our very door – all part of the great O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours service!
