After a pick up from home we are transferred to Melbourne Airport where we are met by an O’Shannessy’s Representative who will assist with our check in for our flight to Perth. We are met in Perth by our friendly O’Shannessy’s Crew before heading to our lovely accommodation where we have some free time to relax before dinner.

Today we will uncover the unique charm of Perth; a sightseeing tour will have us discovering the new Elizabeth Quay, Parliament House, Barrack Arch and much more before stopping at the beautiful Kings Park for spectacular views of the city and river. Late morning, breathe in the fresh air as we cruise down the Swan River to Fremantle; enjoy a cup of tea or coffee as we pass the Swan Brewery, the Royal Perth Yacht Club and Point Walter Spit and hear about all the sights along the way. Our coach captain will meet us in Fremantle and after time to purchase lunch, we’ll continue with some sightseeing of this historic town before returning to Perth via the coast road.

We follow the coast today through Scarborough to the Yanchep National Park: the first of our wildflower experiences. The park nourishes a vast variety of wildflowers such as Kangaroo Paw, Yanchep Rose and Yellow Buttercup. The highlight of our afternoon is a visit to Nambung National Park, the home to bizarre limestone pillars known as The Pinnacles. Our local guide will walk us through the pillars, one of WA’s foremost natural wonders and fill us in on what makes them so unique. The small fishing town of Cervantes is where we spend the night.

OVERNIGHT: Cervantes Pinnacle Motel, CERVANTES

CERVANTES TO KALBARRI

Our journey this morning takes us along the coastal road through seaside towns towards Geraldton. Be surprised by a very unusual sight; The Leaning Trees of Greenough. These River red gums have given up defying prevailing winds and bent themselves almost parallel to the ground in an attempt to escape the salt and the wind blowing off the Indian Ocean!  Once in Geraldton we drive past the port area, the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and the HMAS Sydney Memorial. After some free time for lunch, sit back, relax and enjoy the magnificent views of the rugged coastline as we travel to Kalbarri.

There is time for a walk along the beach this morning if you want to stretch your legs! Experience the wilderness of the Murchison River aboard Kalbarri Wilderness Cruise where we can relax; take in the quiet of the river and the noise of nature. Back in town we have time to purchase lunch. Next have your camera ready as we see Nature’s Window, a natural rock arch which frames the river view perfectly! We end the day with a visit to Rainbow Jungle; the flash of colour and the bird chatter will show us how much the parrots enjoy the largest free flight aviary for parrots in the country. After a wonderful day, we return to the motel for dinner.

KALBARRI – DENHAM

Be camera ready for our final stop before leaving the Kalbarri National Park - Hawks Head Lookout and its expansive views over Kalbarri Gorge and Murchison River. We then re-join the highway and drive to the Peron Peninsula for a light lunch at the Old Telegraph Station. Nearby is Hamelin Pool; we experience the ancientness of our surrounds as we view a colony of stromatolites that date back to the beginning of life on earth. Be awestruck at Shell Beach as we view the beautiful, snow-white beach made up of millions of tiny shells - there is no sand, only shells! Our last stop for the day is at Eagle Bluff’s spectacularly high cliffs for breathtaking views across the Indian Ocean, before we stop in Denham for our overnight stay.

OVERNIGHT: Heritage Resort Shark Bay, DENHAM

Today is Dolphin Day! For more than 30 years now, three generations of Bottle Nosed Dolphins have been visiting the beautiful beach at Monkey Mia to interact with human visitors. The famous World Heritage “dolphin beach” is the ideal place to enjoy this most unusual activity. Of course the dolphins cannot be guaranteed but when they come into shore and mingle with National Park Rangers, it’s an experience not to be missed! Late morning, we return to the highway for lunch and then travel south to Geraldton for our overnight accommodation.

OVERNIGHT: Best Western Hospitality Inn, GERALDTON

NEW NORICA

It will come as a total surprise to see a little bit of the Mediterranean in the middle of the Australian bush! Today we take a tour of New Norcia, Australia’s only monistic town. We visit the amazing Monastery Museum & Art Gallery, renowned for its magnificent collection of works by 16th and 17th Century Masters, noted Australian painters, rare books and artefacts. After an interesting visit and lunch we drive back to Perth.

Rottnest Island, located in the warm clear waters of the Indian Ocean, is today’s destination. Spectacular white sandy beaches, crystal clear blue waters and rare marsupials. The island was named “Rottnest” by Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh which meant “rats nest” - as he mistook the island’s unique marsupials - the Quokkas, for giant rats! The day includes return ferry to the island, lunch and a guided coach tour - as well as some free time to relax and enjoy this tranquil place.

Following breakfast, we complete our check-out procedures and transfer to the Perth Airport for our flight home. On arrival at Melbourne airport our chauffeurs will be there to greet us. We arrive home with many stories and vivid images to share with our family and friends of our delightful WA holiday.
